James Seastrand Helping Hands of NLV (JSHHNLV) was founded in August 1998, and is named after former North Las Vegas Mayor and Councilman James Seastrand, who was well known in the community for helping senior citizens who couldn't help themselves. After his death in 1997, his wife, Rosel Seastrand, decided to keep her husband's memory and tradition alive, by providing seniors with the same help and support her husband provided.
Rosel produced and directed an annual play as a fundraiser for the organization. After her death, the Rosel Seastrand Arts Foundation was created to help continue funding Helping Hands of NLV.
On August 18, 2009, the Rosel Seastrand Arts Foundation Board of Directors voted to merge with James Seastrand Helping Hands of NLV, becoming the Theater Committee under the organization. On August 20, 2009, the Helping Hands board voted to merge with the Arts Foundation.
On January 15, 2012, JSHHNLV started a collaborative program with Helping Hands of Vegas Valley (HHOVV) named the Senior Necessities Program. The program will promote no cost services to senior citizens in the Las Vegas Valley, enabling them to be healthier and age in their own homes, rather than being unnecessarily institutionalized. The program's oversight committee consists of members from both organizations.
